Use of Fireplace, smoking and general fire safety

Most of the summer the neighbors consider this hill side, with it’s sudden winds able to rapidly spread a wildfire, too dangerous to have open combustion. Tom Orlandino has an outside grill with special protections that is used some Friday evenings except when the fire danger is rated high. All forms of smoking must be restricted to the driveway outside of the West porch off of the bunk room. We do not use the fireplace in the summer, even for atmosphere.

Cars are arranged so that they can provide rapid escape in the event of a fast moving wildfire. In the most extreme case of dry conditions and upwards of 100 mph winds a fire spread rate would provide less than 4 minutes of time from a start 400 yards away upwind. Your first indication would be the smell of smoke and that is why the neighbors do not want a fireplace fire in the summer.

Of course fireworks are not allowed at the cabin for the obvious reasons.
